21st Annual Youth Leadership Conference

City on the Hill is a nonprofit organization composed of Christian men and women involved in the fields of Christian ministry, education, business, law, medicine, media and public service - organized for the purpose of sponsoring this fantastic educational opportunity. Highlights of the program include workshops on our Christian heritage, the government of California, grassroots community organizing, the influence of the news media, and career guidance.

A Student's Perspective

1. Why do you want to return to City on the Hill?

I had such an amazing experience last year! The staff was great; they were always there to answer questions and to encourage me! And getting to know the other students was a wonderful experience. I made many new friends, and I hope to make even more this year. I also want to get a better understanding of how our government works, and I think City is one of the best ways to do so. Where else can I learn so much, and have so much fun, in a Christian environment with likeminded people my own age? I was also amazed at how the Alumni treated all of us “Newbies.” They were patient and explained things when I was confused, they made my transition into “City Culture” a much easier one, and I only hope I can help any first-timers in the same way! City is, in my opinion, the best Summer Camp that a Christian teen could attend; I would not miss it for anything.

2. What was most memorable to you from your experience at City on the Hill?

I would have to say going to the Capitol, and debating in the actual rooms where our lawmakers present ideas and plan California’s future was too cool!! Also the people I met, and the friends I made! I also really enjoyed the small group sessions, my faith was strengthened because of those few moments each evening, and because of the amazing example that all of the staff members presented, and the amazing worship meetings. I don’t think there was any one memory that ranks higher in my mind then another, my entire City experience was amazing, and I will never forget all that I learned in such a short period. Oh, yes, and the “Talent Show”J

3. What do you hope to learn this year that you may not have learned at a previous City on the Hill?

I hope to gain an even deeper understanding of how our government works, I learned a lot last year, but I hope to focus even more this year, and really try and learn all that I can. City also helps me affirm my belief that Christians need to be involved in politics, and I hope to learn of new ways to serve, and new opportunities that are available to me as a Christian teen.

4. How would you encourage another student to attend City on the Hill?

I would tell them of the awesome experience that I had, and explain to them to the best of my ability the importance of a “Christian Presence” in our Government today. I would tell them all I learned, and explain that City is NOT just another political camp. It is a place where you can grow spiritually, gain new friendships, and learn even more about this wonderful Country in which we live. It is truly a “one of a kind” place to spend time with like-minded believer’s and learn how to make a difference.

5. What are your career goals, and why have you set these goals?

As I have already said I believe it is extremely important for Christians to be involved in politics. God calls us to put Godly leaders in places of authority, Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule the people groan.” It is for these reasons that I am preparing to pursue a career in government. I hope to attend Patrick Henry College in the fall of 2006, and major in government with an emphasis on Counter Intelligence. I believe Christians are needed in all branches of our government, and I believe that the “Intelligence Community” is desperately lacking in employees who have moral integrity. That is the plan right now, but I am open to wherever the Lord leads, and whatever He brings my way, I only hope that I can make a difference and help to put this great Nation back on the Moral Highway, this Country was founded on God, and that’s where she needs to stay.
